Well for me you need a title like say…Peaky Blinders..just stitch a razor blade into the front of your flat cap and you’re in the gang!
The Peaky Blinders were a real life gangland family from 1920s Birmingham!
An AMAZING soundtrack including the White Stripes; Tom Waits; The Raconteurs and of course the PERFECT title track from Nick Cave and the bad seeds:
Tension, atmosphere, superb camera work and direction helped by a lot of smoke, red light bulbs and a brilliant script.
“Danny you’re dead! ” ”No I’ve been in London….same thing”
Portrayals of strong women from Helen McRory as Aunt Pol and Anabelle Wallis as Grace, telling of the period.
“Women who had been through a First World War, had coped with those men being away and had also done the things that men had done before,” says McRory. “So you’re looking at a new generation of women that were no longer happy to stay at home with a clothes mangle and were coming out.”
The smouldering blue eyes of Thoma Selby played by Cillian Murphy whose performance was haunting, captivating and perfectly executed
“There’s only one thing that could blind a man as smart as you Tommy, and that’s love”
Yes there were faults but we won’t go into them. This brilliant series left us hanging ‘will he won’t he’….’is she isn’t she.’ Of course it wasn’t going to all tie up neatly. They don’t do that anymore.
Rightly or wrongly they’ll milk Peaky Blinders for all they can and why not!
So do we want more Great British Drama with a second series?
‘Hell Yeah’…bring it on!
